A Bad Ass Book Review

I have been an avid reader my entire life. I would read anything from Mother Goose to VC Andrews ( I have to admit, that latter is a guilty pleasure of mine of which I was reading far earlier then I should have been).

Since becoming a business minded individual the type of books that line my bookshelves are quite different. I actually can’t even tell you when I last read a fiction novel.

The books I am drawn to now are of the self help or business type. Which I think is pretty common with people like us. Trying to better ourselves in anyway we can.

I could write a huge list of books that I have read and would recommend that you read but this one is BY FAR my favorite.

You Are A Bad Ass – By Jen Sincero

To start off, I just love the way this is written. In real words, as if the author is speaking directly to me. In words I understand, and need to hear.

This book is not intended only for business minded people, in fact I would recommend any and EVERYBODY read this book!!

Consider for a moment the full title to the book:

“You Are A Bad Ass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living and Awesome Life”

I don’t know anyone that doesn’t need a little of this in their life. Seriously.

The book touches on topics ranging from why you may be the way you are, why you feel things and see things a certain way. While reading the first few chapters I realized very quickly that this witty young lady ( I am assuming she is young. I don’t know for sure) was inside my head. She knew things I had always thought and wondered about myself and gave me the courage to face the reasons so I could see things clearly.

I was hooked very fast and thrust myself into finding out what else she had to say.

I smiled through the whole thing because she is so real. I LOVE these kinds of books, but will be the first to tell you that I can skim over sections and snooze on some paragraphs. Not with this puppy. Every sentence was captivating. So much so that I read it again, and listened to the audio.

I was left with so many take-away’s. Words and phrases that I knew or already applied in my life as well as new one’s that have become game changers for me. That there will never be a day pass that I don’t repeat to myself.

For example, these few have resonated so fully with me. See what you think;

“So often, we pretend we’ve made a decision, when what we’ve really done is signed up to try until it gets too uncomfortable.”

RIGHT???? – How many of us can agree with that??

“maybe, if you put your disbelief aside, roll up your sleeves, take some risks, and totally go for it, you’ll wake up one day and realize you’re living the kind of life you used to be jealous”

This one is now taped on almost every single mirror in my house.

“Because if you base your self-worth on what everyone else thinks of you, you hand all your power over to other people and become dependent on a source outside of yourself for validation. Then you wind up chasing after something you have no control over, and should that something suddenly place its focus somewhere else, or change its mind and decide you’re no longer very interesting, you end up with a full-blown identity crisis.”

Can’t even go there on that one…

“Never apologize for who you are. It lets the whole world down.”

Enough Said.

These don’t even scratch the surface. This book is full of real life, down to earth explanations, and reminders how full of “Bad Assery” we all are.

I don’t care who you are. You’ve got to read this book. It’s Bad Ass.

Until Next Time,

R
